Abstract
The production of The Emperor Jones early in the 20th century marked the final acceptance of Eugene O’Neill as one of the most important dramatists in America, and the play has become the greatest achievement of O’Neill’s experiment in expressionist drama. This thesis attempts to make archetypal study of the play through the analysis of the psychological fantasies, cloths, gunshots and drumbeats.
This thesis consists of three parts: individual unconscious, racial unconscious and collective unconscious of human beings, and each part is correlative for psychological fantasies, cloths, gunshots and drumbeats
The conclusion is devoted to the significance of Jones’ journey in the forest and shows that Jones’ journey is not only an individual escape but also a spiritual journey of his race and human being’s as well.

摘 要
奧尼爾20年代初開始探索用新的戲劇手法去表現歷史與人生。《瓊斯皇》的創作，為他贏得了極大的聲譽，成為表現主義戲劇思潮為美國觀眾所接受的1個重要標志。這篇論文旨在通過幻想，服飾，槍聲和鼓點配合原形分析理論來進行原形批判。
本文開始介紹了《瓊斯皇》在戲劇界中的卓越地位以及有關的創作背景。同時，對榮格的原形分析理論也有詳細的闡述。
整個論文分成3部分，即從個人無意識，民族無意識和人類的集體無意識3個方面對劇本進行原形分析。第1部分分3節分別論述個人無意識與幻影、服裝、槍聲以及鼓點的關系；第2部分分別論述集體無意識與幻影、服裝、槍聲和鼓點的關系；第3部分論述人類無意識與幻影、服裝、槍聲和鼓點的關系。
結尾部分，對瓊斯在森林逃跑過程中產生的無意識現象的意義進行更深層次地探討，指出了瓊斯的奔跑歷程不僅是其個人的生活歷程更反映了整個民族，整個人類的歷史進程。
