1、高考的英語全稱是：National College Entrance Examination，簡稱NEMT，中文全稱是：普通高等學校招生全國統一考試。

首先，英美國人對高考的理解貌似跟我們不太一樣，有些人認為它可以籠統地算作一場考試，因此用的是單數exam；而有些人認為它是一系列的考試，所以要用復數exams，各有各的道理。
其次，這個“高”（高等學校）是翻譯成college還是university？我們常常聽到的解釋是“college是學院，而university是綜合性大學”。其實都可以，尤其是在美國英語中，MacMillan English Dictionary - American是這樣解釋college的：in the U.S., a place that gives students degrees. A school of this typecan also be called a universityif it is large enough to give degrees in more than one subject。
因此，“高考”可譯為：
the national college entrance exam
直譯是“全國大學入門考試”。
注意事項：
1.每個單詞一般都不大寫，除非在句首；
2. 其中的college說成university也可以，exam用exams也可以。
2、高考的另一種寫法是漢語拼音：Gaokao. 目前已經進入牛津詞典。

高考(gaokao)指中華人民共和國全國普通高等學校招生入學考試(National Higher Education Entrance Examination)，也叫全國大學入學考試(National College Entrance Examination)，是中國大陸一年一度(annual)的學業考試(academic examination)。
相當于美國SAT考試，即SAT Reasoning Test，以前叫Scholastic Assessment Test與Scholastic Aptitude Test.
該考試幾乎是進入所有高等學校(higher education institution)本科階段(undergraduate level)學習的必要條件(prerequisite)，決定了一個人一生的職業軌跡(professional trajectory)。
學生一般在中學教育(secondary education)【包括高中與初中】最后一年參加(sit)高考，但從2001年開始已經沒有年齡限制(age restriction)。考試成績不好(a poor performance on the test)幾乎就意味著沒有機會上大學。
所以有些人在考試失利后會選擇重讀(repeat the last year of high school life)第二年重考(make another attempt/retake the test)。
